Intel was mentioned in August in a total of 4,615 articles and posts on media, blogs and discussion forums in the Americas region, reaching a potential audience estimated to be over 25 million people. In printed media, the brand appeared in 185 articles in Brazil, Mexico, and LAR Hub, with a potential reach of 3.6 million people. In the online environment, the 4,430 articles and posts also includes Canada.

Intel executives gave 32 interviews, including some with tier-one media, resulting in great impact on the Corporate, CCG and Autonomous Driving pillars. Highlights include the Country Managers Mauricio Ruiz (Brazil/BandNews), Lorena Zicker (Argentina/Clarín), and Juan Carlos Garcés (Colombia/Enter.Co); the Intel Mexico Marketing Director, Luigi Forastieri (Reforma); the IoT Manager Fabio Tagnin (Chile/Diario Financiero); and two executives of the Guadalajara Design Center (GDC): the General Manager Jesus Palomino (Reforma) and the Scientist Julio Zamora (Forbes Mexico).

Three special events took place in the region to launch the Intel Xeon Scalable processor Scalable family launch, covered by media outlets such as El Financiero (in the picture), and to showcase the benefits of Intel Optane memory.

Compared to the 64 other brands, which compete with Intel in the seven brand pillars (Corporate, CCG, DCG and 4Cs), Intel had the best performance, ranking first in share of voice (SOV) by number of mentions, with 25.2% out of 17,603 mentions in media, blogs and forums. Intel was followed by AMD (17.2%), Facebook (10.1%), Google (8.4%) and Nvidia (8.2%).

By social shares and online readership, Intel ranked second, with 124K shares, just after Facebook (137K), which attracted a lot of attention on social media after shutting down its AI robots that created their own language.

Within the seven pillars, Intel CCG generated the highest volume of conversation, with 3,751 mentions. The most discussed topic was the 8th Generation Intel Core processor launch on August 21, which generated a lot of buzz around its 40% improvement in performance for heavy content creation tasks, VR and gaming.

This month, the PR teams of each market developed special actions that went viral such as Father’s Day (BR) and Gamers Day contest (LAR Hub). In Mexico, the Intel Xeon Scalable processors launch event had an attendance of 21 media outlets from all over the region.

Besides the tier-one media, the blog Orbes Argentina, and the Foro CHW discussion board, appeared among the most relevant media for technology coverage in the region.

Four interviews with Intel executives were featured in important media outlets in Latin America in August, promoting the company's key messages. The interviews were featured in top-tier media in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina.

Mauricio Ruiz, Country Manager of Intel Brazil, was interviewed in Giro Business, a TV show of BandNews channel with a major audience of C-level and business executives.

Lorena Zicker, Intel Argentina CEO, talked to Clarín, the most popular newspaper in Argentina, on her leading role in a tech company and the challenges it represents.

Forbes Mexico published a 3-page article about Julio Zamora, Intel Scientist at Guadalajara Design Center, describing his career path, the challenges and opportunities he found.

Jesus Palomino, General Manager of the Guadalajara Design Center, explained to Reforma the activities performed in the GDC, and its relevance for Mexico and Latin America.

On social networks, the Corporate pillar had a large number of negative mentions, mainly related to the reaction of CEOs of technology companies, including Intel, against Trump’s inappropriate conduct concerning the Charlottesville incident. These negative mentions impacted the Social Reputation Score of the brand, valuated in 57.1 in August. On the positive side, Intel was mentioned due to the internet laboratory at the Polytechnic University of Yucatan; its alliance with Fiat Chrysler and BMW to develop autonomous cars; and the development of 100 autonomous cars this year.

Taking advantage of back-to-school time in Mexico, Reforma published a product review of the HP Pavilion x360 convertible with the Intel Core i5 processor. Luigi Forestieri, Marketing Director of Intel Mexico, was also interviewed by Reforma, talking about the importance of choosing the right processor according to a person’s computing needs.

On Father’s Day, celebrated in Brazil in August, the blogger Cid/Não Salvo gave his father a 2 in 1 notebook with an Intel processor, and taught him how to use it in a Facebook Live session. On International Gamers Day (August 29), Intel created an online guide for the best PCs for gamers, published in the newsroom. The gaming industry was also the subject of a 5-page report published by eSemanal, mentioning Intel.

 

More than 60 articles referred to the 8th Generation Intel Core processor family launch. Adrenaline and T3 Mexico highlighted the 40% improvement in performance and on the creation of 4K video, VR, 3D and augmented reality apps. In LAR Hub, the tech magazine Users published a cover story on the 8th Gen Intel Core features, news and first benchmarks.

Intel Optane memory communication was reinforced in August. In Brazil, Intel promoted a workshop for journalists and influencers to clarify all the benefits that Optane brings to PCs and the memory segment. In LAR Hub, an article by Enfasys Magazine highlighted the ”impressive capabilities of Optane”, with quotes of Rodrigo Teixeira, PM of Intel at Air Computers, on the product key messages.

The Peruvian Dota 2 gaming squad “MAD Kings” entered phase 1 of the ROG Masters tournament, developed by Asus and Intel. The action generated 3 premium articles published in La República, RPP and Publimetro.

On August 10, the Intel Xeon Scalable processor was launched for LatAm media in Mexico, with an attendance of 21 media outlets from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, and 22 interviews given during the event, resulting in nearly 80 articles. Specialized tech media Enfasys and IT Ware Latam media (Argentina) interviewed Socrates Huesca, Field Application Engineer at Intel Corporation, who stated: “These CPUs are manufactured from scratch, with a new architecture and a platform that improves and integrates artificial intelligence”. A week after Mexico’s launch, Intel Brazil invited 6 journalists to a press roundtable to let them know more about Intel Xeon’s innovations, including TecMundo and other important tech media.

 

The newspaper El Financiero covered the Intel Xeon Scalable processor launch, and published an article that focused on the increased support that new data center processors will give to next-generation applications such as artificial intelligence and stand-alone cars. The article also pointed to a battle with AMD and other companies for the ”lucrative business of chips for cloud computing”.

The business newspaper Valor Econômico published an article around the adoption of data centers, servers and cloud computing by small businesses in Brazil. The article, with an interview by Barbara Toledo, Data Center Marketing Manager at Intel Brazil, mentioned the recent Intel Xeon processor Scalable family launch, and the Small & Medium Business study published by Intel last year.

Ricardo Lopez Tello, Client Computing Group Director at Intel Mexico, was interviewed by Aristegui Noticias, resulting in the article “One thousand 600 engineers in Mexico validate technology for Intel”, focused on DCG and the development of a great quantity of server platforms and computer processors by Mexican talent.

Other themes surrounding DCG that generated impact on social networks were related to the Toyota-Intel partnership (Digital Look, Tecnoblog, CanalTech, TecMundo); the announcement of new Intel breakthroughs for data center storage (CIO Peru); the new SSD model (CanalTech, The Verge); and Intel Drones in Singapore's National Day (Mashable).

On artificial intelligence, Intel reached an estimated audience of over 2 million people. The most relevant themes for Intel VR in August, with impact on social networks, were related the Mobileye acquisition and the project of developing 100 autonomous cars (IDGNow, La Nación, Hypertextual); the Intel partnerships with Toyota and Ericsson (Tecnoblog, CanalTech, TecMundo), and with Fiat Chrysler and BMW (Gestión, TicBeat, CBC, La Nación, PYM Magazine, CanalTech).

 

In Chile, Diario Financiero published an article about smart cities, with quotes from Fabio Tagnin, IoT Latin American Manager at Intel, on the impact of autonomous vehicles by 2025, and how they will change the way people move in cities. The article also focused on the growing importance of e-commerce.

Intel Colombia CEO, Juan Carlos Garcés, was interviewed by Sergio Ospina, from Enter.co, the most important tech media in Colombia. He talked about the impact of autonomous cars, the high volume of data to be generated by them, and perspectives on 5G.

Intel joined Razões para Acreditar, a Brazilian blog focused on good causes, to launch a campaign surrounding the impact of VR technology on the well-being of elderly people. Three films were created in a nursing home where residents were invited to wear VR glasses to feel like they were in a place they have always wanted to visit. The blog will also disclose content on the importance of technology in the treatment of diseases such as autism and visual disability. To date, videos published on the Razões para Acreditar fan page had more than 300K views, reaching a potential audience of 800K.

 

Federico Wiemeyer, a tech influencer with more than 300K followers in Twitter and presenter at TN Tecno, the most important tech TV program in Argentina, hosted a special edition of the IED, where he interacted with the IoT Showroom and the HTC Vive, among others devices.

The Colombian PR team organized two VR sessions for journalists to test different uses of the HTC Vive with 7th Gen Intel Core processors in games, sports, fashion and health. The experience was reported in four articles in Vanguardia Liberal, El Tiempo, Techcetera and RCN Televisión.

Among all pillars, Facebook’s artificial intelligence ranked first in social shares, boosted with articles like “Facebook's AI robots shut down after they start talking to each other in their own language”, published by Orbes Argentina, and shared 888 times on Twitter, with a potential reach of 124K people. Another piece of news, “Artificial Intelligence from Facebook and Google Wants to Beat Gamers on Starcraft”, published by news portals as El Comercio, also contributed to the high volume of shares on Facebook.

On social networks, AMD's Vega 64 video card was heavily criticized by gamers, and a video of the YouTuber Michael Quesada, from Costa Rica, was widely shared in the region. "AMD abandoned the PC gamers enthusiasts with VEGA 64", with almost 74K views, highlighted the low performance, high temperatures and high price of the product. The video was shared 63 times in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Peru.
